What we collect
When you use the contact form, we collect the details you type in: your name, email address, business name, what you need and your message. If you email us, we receive your email address and what you write.
Please do not send confidential information or documents in a first message. We will talk it through with you when we speak.
Why we use it
We use your details only to reply to your enquiry and, if you go on to instruct us, to start that work. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in answering enquiries made to us, and taking steps at your request before a contract.
Who handles it for us
- Forminit receives and stores contact form submissions and emails them to us. Forminit is a UK company and says it hosts data in Ireland.
- GitHub hosts this website. Like any web host, it receives your IP address when you load a page. GitHub is based in the United States.
- Google Analytics (only if you accept analytics cookies) tells us how the site is used. It receives your IP address and details such as the pages you view and your device and browser. Google is based in the United States. See our cookie policy.
- Google Fonts supplies the typefaces on this site. Your browser requests them from Google, which receives your IP address. Google is based in the United States.
- Our email provider handles the emails we send and receive.
When you submit the form, Forminit’s software may also record where you came from (for example, a link you clicked), your approximate location and technical details such as your browser. We do not sell your information or use it for marketing.
Cookies
We use one essential cookie to remember your cookie choice. We only set Google Analytics cookies if you accept them, and we do not use advertising cookies. You can change your mind at any time. Details are in our cookie policy.
How long we keep it
If you enquire but do not become a client, we delete your enquiry within 12 months. If you become a client, we keep your information in line with our professional and legal obligations. [Natasha to confirm retention periods]
Your rights
You can ask us to see the personal information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it, and you can object to how we use it. Email natasha@effectivelaw.co.uk and we will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would appreciate the chance to put things right first.
